KBAs and
BirdLife Australia

Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) are places of global significance for the conservation of birds and other wildlife which must meet strict, international scientific criteria.

They are the most important places in the world for species and their habitats.

The KBA program is a global partnership of leading conservation groups with the aim to sustain the most important sites for nature.

To do this we use the best available science to identify KBAs and promote and support targeted volunteer action for these places and the species that depend on them. Over 300 KBAs have already been declared in Australia mainly based on their importance for birds. These places also support over 2/3 of all threatened species in the Country.
